ELIZA HOLLAND, CNM

Eliza (she/her) grew up on a farm, thought she’d work at a zoo, and somehow ended up on the labor floor instead!  She has been a midwife since 1999, and has her degrees in reproductive physiology from Cornell University, nursing from Columbia University, and midwifery from the University of Pennsylvania.  She has special interests in alternative medicine, teen health, the transitions of menopause, and she has cross-discipline expertise in bladder and pelvic floor health.

Before joining WHA in 2013, she worked around Connecticut in community health, at the Yale School of Nursing, and in private practice.  She volunteered internationally in Guatemala, training nurses and local midwives as well as supporting health ministry efforts in prenatal outreach.  Eliza is a state and national level political activist in the area of women’s health, and participates in the training of midwifery students and medical residents.  She has received the Yale School of Medicine Midwifery Award and the Yale School of Nursing Preceptor of the Year award for excellence in teaching, the Connecticut ACNM Midwifery Activist Award, midwifery’s Thatcher Leadership Fellowship, and was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Nurse-Midwives in the spring of 2022.

All of that means nothing to her son and daughter, but they always want to hear the names of the babies born in the night!  Eliza loves animals, crocheting, weight lifting, aerial circus, snow, and all outdoor adventures with her crazy-supportive husband and family.
